Terms of Reference

The Joint CUHK-NTEC Clinical Research Ethics Committee
(香港中文大學 – 新界東醫院聯網臨床研究倫理聯席委員會)

1.

To consider ethical issues relating to clinical research only.

2.

To review proposed research projects, especially research on human subjects and has authority to approve, require modifications in (to secure approval), or disapprove research proposals.

3.

To invite individuals with competence in special areas to assist in the review on complex issues which require expertise beyond or in addition to that available from among the Committee. These individuals may not vote with the Committee.

4.

To ensure that information given to subjects as part of informed consent is in accordance with generally accepted international practice. In this respect, the Committee may require that information, in addition to that which is usually required, be given to subjects when in the Committee’s judgement the information would meaningfully add to the protection of the rights and welfare of the subjects.

5.

To have authority to observe or to appoint a third party to observe the consent process and the research.
